15A- Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No.2

Interview 1: What I learned from this interview is that the couple told me that they would like to see tests that prove that the technology would work and would wait until there's enough cars to have it and be effective than buy it when it first comes out. They prefer more about the quality of the product before buying and at it being at a reasonable price.

Interview 2: What I learned from a Father provided an idea on how with the technology that we should make sensors that work with the technology and then be able to work with car brands and their mechanics so they would be able to configure the car's programming to integrate the sensors and all.

Interview 3: Another couple informed that they like to buy in store and personally see what they're buying in person. They liked the idea and would like to also see results if the  technology is effective before buying it because they wouldn't want to buy something that could potentially put them in more danger to bugs in the software or the software not working properly.

Conclusion: I learned some valuable things about the product and in terms of alternate evaluations the idea of selling the sensors and integrate the technology but i would have to work withe the brands to let us integrate them into the cars and it will probably only work with newer cars that have safety features that allow the car to take control in situations. It might work if we had our own store or shop where we can display the sensors and the technology in action and then have mechanics familiar with the other brands software to be able to install it themselves. We would also need to test the software so it works so it can show people that the technology is actually safe and effective.

14A- Halfway Reflection

1) The behaviors I've used to keep up with the requirements is time management as I have to split doing certain things for each day so I slowly get things done throughout the week so everyday I'm not rushing to  complete the assignment the night before.

2) I felt like giving up when i had to watch a bunch of lectures and had to read 400 pages in a week as I was staying up till 5 am for three nights while reading the book. What pulled me through was that I just kept on going as I knew it would be worse if I didn't do it that night and push it off till tomorrow. I feel i already developed a tenacious attitude before the past two months has my experiences being passionate about something gives me the ability to be completely focused on it and be able to work hours straight just working on that things.

3) 3 tips I would offer for next semester kids is to figure out the first week how you're gonna schedule the lectures and activities throughout the week. I would also tell them to do other homework or something else during the lectures and then take notes after on the slides as it will help for time management for other classes. I would also tell them to find something that they're passionate about and try to start something from it.

13A - Reading Reflection No. 1

1. What surprised me the most was how Elon took really big risks and pushed through so much almost going broke to come out of that unscathed and build up Tesla and SpaceX. I admire his tenacity and work ethic as he would he wouldn't know much about a subject and he would learn so he would understand the mechanics of anything and be able to work with his Engineers. I least admired his personality as sometimes he can be pretty harsh and fire people from his company that were loyal and valuable to him. Elon faced adversity and failure during much of his start ups but he pushed through and worked hard to either get money or to fix the problems before they ruined either company.

2.  Elon exhibited many competencies as he has an amazing work ethic and would work nonstop until he get what he needs to get done even if he has to stay up all night or sleep at the office. He also learns everything that he has to know about what he is making even if he has to start from scratch. He would be someone who doesn't know that much to being an expert after he learns.

3. One part that was confusing was when they were talking about the business side or go deep in the engineering topics for engines and rockets as it was hard to know what they were talking about.

4. If I were able to ask Elon two questions would be how is he able to work so much and still be able to have a social life  and what his philosophy on his work ethic is to get a better understanding.

5. I think his opinion for hard work was that he thinks people should be as passionate as he is on what they re working and be able to do the impossible while making it even harder to do but still being able to do it. He wants to push people to their limits while pushing it more. I agree with the idea that if you were passionate about something that you could get in the zone and work really hard during that time and get a lot done.

12A - Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No.1


 Segment: The segment I chose is middle aged parents who have kids as they would want safety features on their car due to wanting to keep their kids in case a crash happens.

Interview: What I learned from my segment is that they think the idea is nice but they don't have a high demand for it. As they have to take of their kids which can be costly and as a result if brands just utilize the technology then the brands can use the technology as an extra safety package which can be more costly. As long as its a reasonable price they would think about getting it but since the price would be controlled by the brands who use it, we wouldn't be able to change that. They say they rather would just drive safe unless the safety features would be lowered which wouldn't be known. Otherwise they would utilize it since kids can sometimes be rowdy and distracting, especially in their younger years, and often can distract the parents when they're driving so during those times they said it would be nice if something can help them if a crash is imminent because the parents takes off the road for a second.

Conclusion:  This segment would rather drive safely on their own when safety features are priced to high but if the idea was priced right then they would buy it as it would make the road safer for them and their kids. They do think it's a great idea but that the brands would be able to price the technology to whatever they decide.

11A - Idea Napkin No. 1

1. You :
  • I'm a  freshman at UF as a mechanical engineering major. I'm skilled in talking to people and I can pick up new things pretty quickly when it comes to technical things. I have experience on my own just making whatever comes to mind and plenty of experience talking to people about anything. My aspirations are to just do whatever I want such as turning my ideas into reality. If I were to start my concept as a business,  it would take a lot of my time especially since ill be passionate about it and so invested that I'll make sure it gets to where it needs to be.
2. What are you offering to customers? :
  • I'm offering  car companies a product that could be incorporated into their cars to help reduce the number of fatalities due to car crashes. I'm customers that buy cars to have the ability to have their chance of crashing lowered as the car would be able to react with other cars due to an accident of whatever cause. Using the technology will make the car companies have a better reputation of having a safer car then people who won't use the technology. It'll be better than the individual sensors on a car that stop when they are about to crash as they can be fault and stop in the middle of the traffic due to different factors affecting the sensor.
3.  Who are you offering it to? :
  • I'm offering it to car companies who want to make their cars to compete with Tesla and their autonomous driving features. Instead of the cars driving we still have people driving but the cars can react with other as a group instead of an individual car.
4. Why do they care? : 
  • Instead of having to figure out how to make the technology themselves they can buy it through licensing and implement it into their cars. As a result the car companies that use it will be able to have their cars communicate with another companies car to make it much safer for people driving on the road. If they did it on their own then only the company's cars would be able to communicate with only that company and not another company's car.
5. What are your core competencies? :
  • What sets me apart is that since I'll only be making the technology and not the cars i can have it implement in any brand of car that chooses to buy it and have the technology become more effective then only to have one brand utilize it and have it only work with that brand of cars.

I believe there are some aspects of my business concept that are weaker with the others. My business plan relies that on other companies buy the technology from me through licensing but if they decide not to license then my concept will not be profitable. I would also have to figure out how to make the technology safe so it won't cause accidents due to failures or other factors that can affect it and cause  crashes.

9A - Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Interview 1: 
  • This student is a freshman college student who doesn't drive at college. He feels that he wouldn't need the autonomous communication since he believes he is a safe driver and is always aware of his surroundings since he hasn't been a car accident ever.
Interview 2:
  • I interviewed a middle-class mother who drives her kids to school. She states that if the autonomous communication was an add on feature to the car  then she wouldn't want to pay for the feature since it may cost too much and as a result would stick to driving carefully and attentively.
Interview 3:
  •  I interviewed a college student that drives a car at UF. He questioned what would happen to all the older cars that wouldn't have the autonomous communication if it was implemented in older cars. He states that as a college student he would just use the car he has instead of buying a new car for a feature he feels is unnecessary as he could just drive safely.
Interview 4:
  • I interviewed someone who uses public transportation instead of driving. She stated how it was probably a good idea but wouldn't have the need since she used buses or other forms of public transportation instead.
Interview 5:
  • I interviewed a student who bikes around campus. He says he doesn't have the need since he doesn't use a car around campus and when he goes somewhere far he uses public transportation, SNAP, or Uber instead so he said he wouldn't have the need.

 Who is In: People who drive regularly and believe they need safety features when they drive. Drivers with disabilities.
 Who is Not: People who believe they already drive safe. People who wouldn't be able to afford it. People who use public transportation or other means of transportation than a car.
 What the Need Is: Something that could counter human error while driving so there would be a decrease in crashes.
 What the Need is Not: Wouldn't help to decrease crashes between motorcycles or crashes with pedestrians or bikers.
 Why the Need Exists: The need exists since humans are fallible and as a result a tremendous amount of crashes happen every year in the US alone and there is a need to reduce the number of fatalities in crashes.
 Alternative Explanations: The amount of crashes happen because people aren't paying attention to the road and older people who may have hearing or seeing problems which also increases the risk of crashing.

8A - Solving The Problem

My product is creating sensors and a common language and system that could integrate with any car so that cars can communicate with each other about their surroundings in order to prevent fatal crashes.

As the opportunity being that the number of fatal crashes due to human error are enormous and a possible way to fix this was to introduce machines that are programmed to be perfect would be able to counter the human error. As a result, this would reduce the amount of crashes.

Our product which is like what Tesla is working on would instead be an independent product instead of being made into a car like Tesla. The product would be the sensors and the programming required that would allow other cars to communicate each other and as a system have any car react to any situation that arises from ,maybe a possible crash. Instead of putting it in a car though we will make it separately and then license it so the technology will only be owned by us. As a result instead of selling a car, we would license the technology to other companies as a result so the customers would be the car customers who would pay us to use the technology in their cars such as the movable side mirrors were created and implemented into cars. Also as a result the product can be implemented into any car company that uses the technology which would allow cars from different companies to communicate with cars from another company creating a standard way for them to communicate instead of different companies creating their own and having their own programming.
